| Wrinkle Reduction Wrinkles are formed by our everyday facial movements. When we are young these lines spring away when we stop laughing or frowning but as we age our faces become maps of our daily emotions, with lines and wrinkles permanently etched for all to see.
Sometimes these lines can be at odds with how we are feeling. Frown lines, formed over years of expressions, can make us look stressed and tired even when we are feeling our best.
Anti-wrinkle injections are the solution. They smooth out and remove the wrinkles to leave a fresher more youthful face.
Types of Anti-wrinkle treatments available
There are two types of treatments to smooth away wrinkles and they are often used together for optimum results. There are injectable muscle relaxants that work by relaxing the muscles that cause us to frown and there are dermal fillers that are used to plump up and smooth out folds and lines that are permanently on our faces, such as vertical lip lines or the folds that run from our nose to our lips (nasolabial folds). Dermal fillers return lost volume and definition that age has taken away from the lips.
Injectable muscle relaxants
What is an injectable muscle relaxant and how does it work?
A natural purified protein is used to relax the specific facial muscles that cause the wrinkle, formed during facial expressions. Once the muscle is relaxed you can no longer contract it. The lines become softened and new ones are prevented. It is ideal for, but not limited to, the treatment of frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines.
Injectable muscle relaxants can also be used for improving the jawline without surgery. Say goodbye to an undefined aging jawline . Your jawline can be lifted and defined with the aptly named Nefertiti lift.
Square jawlines can also be refined and contoured, softening the edges.
Muscle relaxants are also used in the successful treatment of excessive sweating, hyperhidrosis.
What is involved?Treatment is simple and highly effective. Using a very fine needle a small amount of the muscle relaxant is injected into the wrinkle causing muscle. Discomfort is minimal with only a tiny sting that lasts a few seconds, however, topical anaesthetic cream is available for those who prefer and ice is used to further minimize discomfort. There is no down time and you can return to normal activities immediately. It takes 3-4 days for the treatment to begin to take effect and up to 10 days to see the full effect. How long will it last? The treatment lasts approximately 4 months with a gradual wearing off as expressions lines return to their original appearance. You can return for further treatment when you feel you need to be retreated to maintain your smoother look. If you choose not to return your lines and wrinkles will return to their pre-injection state. Are there any side effects? The muscle relaxant used for anti-wrinkle treatment has been used in Australia therapeutically for over 20 years and there have been no permanent side effects reported. Possible temporary side effects are stinging, bruising or redness at the injection site. Very rarely partial eyelid or eyebrow droop or double vision can occur but these are temporary and resolve themselves. Dermal fillers What are dermal fillers and how do they work?Dermal fillers are a smooth injectable gel made from a natural complex sugar (polysaccharide) called Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid occurs naturally in the skin. It helps hydrate the skin by retaining water and combining with collagen and elastin to provide structure and volume. The Hyalouronic Acid in the dermal filler is not derived from animals and is manufactured and purified especially for the smoothing of wrinkles and for soft, natural lip enhancement. It ideal for replacing the volume and elasticity lost through the process of aging.
In its natural form Hyalouronic acid is broken down and metabolised by the body. The dermal fillers used by Skin Renu have been cross-linked so the results last for as long as possible. The longevity and smoothness of the dermal filler is a result of this cross-linking process.
Dermal fillers are used to smooth out facial folds such as the nasolabial folds (the folds running from the edge of the nose to the corners of the mouth)adding volume and structure to the face resulting in a more youthful appearance. They also rejuvenate the mouth by filling the fine lines of the upper lip, define and add volume to the lips.
What is involved? The treatment is a non surgical procedure. Using a very fine needle the dermal filler is injected just under the skin to lift a line or wrinkle or add volume to the lips. A local anaesthetic can used to help numb the area being treated. There is minimal discomfort with little or no downtime. This can be a lunchtime procedure, as most can return to their normal activities. Are there possible side effects?Side effects can occur, they are usually minimal and confined to the injection site. They include swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising and will resolve themselves. Can dermal fillers be used with other procedures?Dermal fillers are ideal when combined with other procedures for total facial rejuvenation. Our highly trained staff can recommend how to combine therapies to achieve the best outcome for your concerns. How long does the treatment last? There are 3 strengths of dermal fillers, for fine lines, medium lines & deep lines, so treatment is tailored for your needs. The product has cross-linking in the gel. Cross-linking is the substance that is added to the gel, to give the product longevity or longer lasting resistance.
How long the product lasts depends on your body’s metabolism. The faster your metabolism, the faster the product will dissolve. Also your age and condition of your skin is a factor.
We can estimate between 5 – 12 months.
